10 thousand videos

Nelsok.com reported on a milestone 5 months ago that we had over 5k videos upload, now just under 5 months later we have more than doubled the amount of videos uploaded and we are constantly expanding both our user base and the amount of people who are viewing our videos both on and off our site. We encourage all of our users to use their adsense ID when registering their account so that they can earn revenue for their content and videos. We look forward to the next time we are able to report a large number of uploaded videos... probably 25k and hopefully this will be within 2 months.

New Site Feature - Share Videos with Selected Users Only

We have just implemented a new feature on nelsok.com. Users are now able to share their video or videos with selected users ONLY. This means that a video does not have to be publicly available for you to share it with one or many friends. This also means that users no longer need to keep their videos private and share them only when someone is physically watching with them at their computer. To find out more and utilize this great new feature please visit nelsok.com and Sign Up for an account.

Upload HD and High Quality Video

Nelsok.com is now allowing users to upload HQ (HD) video quality videos to their accounts. With the increasing amount of HD video being produced and transfered online, the decision to allow users to upload this kind of video was an easy one. Users who create spectacular video productions and see their creations lose quality when they upload will not have this happen again.

There are many advantages of upgrading your account to a High Definition video account. First the viewable size of the video increases from 450x370 to 756x425. This alone allows for a better viewing experience. When the larger viewable size is coupled with h.264 video encoding and a preserved aspect ratio the video quality is now very similar to that of the original file prior to upload. One last feature of these accounts is that no advertisements will be displayed with the videos.

Video Uploads and Users

Nelsok.com began with no users and 1 test video. We have now grown to over 2,500 users and over 5,300 videos uploaded by users. The site is now averaging about 100 new video uploads per day and 25 new users.

With the viral nature of the internet and video content we only expect these numbers to increase. The increase in videos results in an increase of viewers. The increase in viewers is great for our users who take part in our revenue sharing programs.

How to Earn Money from Your Videos

We have been hard at work developing more tools and features for our users but we would like to take a minute to help everyone make some money from their videos.

First - You need to sign up for an adsense publisher account. You can start the process here: http://www.nelsok.com/earn

Second - Create an account on nelsok.com and associate your adsense publisher ID with your nelsok.com account

Third - Upload a video under your nelsok.com account

Fourth - Promote your video

The fourth step is probably one of the most important steps. Without visitors to watch your video, you wont make any money. There are several ways to get visitors to watch your video.

- Post a link on your blog using the link code on your video page.
- Use the social bookmark links to post your video on your favorite social bookmarking and news sites.
- Post your video on your myspace, hi5 or facebook profile
- Email your video URL to friends, you can do this either using the "email to friend link" or by copying the Link URL into and email.

Once your video promotion is complete you can just sit back and watch your earnings grow.

New Storage Hardware

We have upgraded our hardware again. Both our storage systems and servers have been upgraded. The end user will see increased speeds realized through upload, download and database read and write.

The storage hardware upgrade is where users will see the most impact. We have moved from an ATA NAS solution to a Fiber Channel (FC) SAN. Video upload and video download speeds will be greatly increased. We have also increased the storage capacity to 1.8 Tera bytes.

All the servers are now running 15k SCSI drives. 4 GB of RAM, and Dual Xeon Processors.

The architecture of the system has also changed to a distributed system.

Video Conversion

In the past our video conversion software has been spotty on what videos it will let pass through its conversion process and which ones it will not. This is no longer the case. We have upgraded our video converter and now nearly 95% of all videos being uploaded are passed through our system without errors. The majority of the previous errors were resulting from videos in the .wmv and .mov formats. Now that these files are being passes through the system error free users will begin to see an increase in the number of files they have uploaded. Although there are still a few codecs that our decoded/encoder can not handle, we believe that delivering on 95% of users videos is a great accomplishment. We have also minimized the time between upload/conversion and approval. Overall our users are seeing anywhere from a 50% to 60% decrease in wait time, for their videos to go live.
